Wax Ribbon
Low cost ribbon used for printing onto short-life paper labels. Typically used for box-end or carton labelling, where the label is purely for identification purposes and will be thrown away as part of the packaging. Also used in retail applications. It prints well on coated and uncoated papers but will smudge and can be scratched off.
Wax-Resin
A mid range ribbon used where more durability is required. offer better smudge resistance than standard wax ribbon. It will print onto some synthetic labels and is resistant to temperatures up to 100°C.
Resin
Prints well onto synthetics, including PVC, PET, PE and PP, and offers excellent scratch and smudge resistance. A highly durable print ribbon, it withstands temperatures up to 180°C. Suitable for outdoor labelling, automotive applications, chemical drum labels, rating plates etc. There is also a "super resin" ribbon for use in extreme environment, such a PCB manufacturing where temperatures can reach >300°C.
